Contraction Extension in Store for Thembinkosi Lorch
Reports indicate that Orlando Pirates are extending the contract of their troubled midfielder, Thembinkosi Lorch.
In addition to a long history of injuries, Lorch’s playing career at Orlando Stadium has been further blighted after he was found guilty of assaulting his then-girlfriend, Fundiswa Mathithibala, by the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in Johannesburg, Gauteng in June.
Nevertheless, sources say that the Buccaneers have already drawn up a three-year contract extension for the 30-year-old midfielder.
“The team wants to keep him for another three years,” one of the sources divulged to a soccer outlet on Tuesday, 1 August.
“They say there is nothing stopping them from giving him a new contract, and the three-year contract is the best for both parties … They don’t want to waste time anymore at this stage and that’s why they want it done before December.”
Another source added: “The figures and conditions of the new deal are much better than the ones in the last contract.”
A sentencing hearing for Lorch is scheduled to take place on 4 September.
